The initial achievement gap between Hispanic and white students persists all through middle faculty and high school. Tracing the academic efficiency of Hispanic college students over the past 20 years using trend knowledge from the National Assessment of Educational Progress shows that Hispanic students continue to lag behind non-Hispanic whites (U.S. Department of Education, 2003d). Figure 6-6 signifies that for fourth, eighth, and twelfth graders, differences in common studying scores between Hispanic and non-Hispanic white college students are evident, and this sample is consistent throughout Hispanic subgroups.
